After a decade since their last full length Weiland Empyrium has returned! Their sound has completely evolved since the last album I've checked out "Songs of Moors and Misty Fields' which was many moons ago. The album was much more of a doom folk metal feel but "The Turn of the Tides" is a completely new chapter for the band in my opinion. Theirs much more symphonies used specifically the orchestral strings that do a fantastic job in complimenting everything. I feel a huge addition of classical music implemented into their sound since their earlier releases. The piano and the operatic style vocals by Helm carries a lot of the weight through the entire album. The emotions projected are powerful and effective to the listener and is quite breathe taking at several parts throughout the full length. Empyrium has never really disappointed me and it seems they continuously evolve as a band. Looking very much forward to their next release and hopeful to have the opportunity to see them live one day.

Recommended for fans of Agalloch, Ulver, Dornenreich, and October Falls
